Ladies and Gentlemen – this is an account of metamorphosis behind the scenes at Collective Intelligence for the past 18 months as we move towards launching version 2.0 on 14 December 2022. There’s a lot here to unpack and it’s been wonderful to record it in this Blog.

It’s a cool terminology that is very new and now bordering on being overused (says I who’s about to use it anyway) Here’s a dictionary definition: Regenerative means able to or tending to regenerate—to regrow or be renewed or restored, especially after being damaged or lost. The act or process of regenerating is regeneration. Here’s mine: You leave the planet and people in better shape than before, with your actions. There are many debates going on at present around the use of this term regenerative, which is good, as we all wrestle with a future that is dire for humanity due to our current modern systems not being regenerative. The only things I am personally sure of with regenerative systems is they ALL rely on biodiversity (whether people or plants), and they All take time and patience to create.

All the good folks of Ngā Manu Titi Rere Ao, of the Edmund Hillary Fellowship. Image courtesy of Peanut Productions Photography The Edmund Hillary Fellowship launched in January 2017 and opened applications for global entrepreneurs and investors as well as Kiwis to join two cohorts a year. The intention is to incubate impactful solutions to problems of significance to humanity and the environment from Aotearoa New Zealand. Once accepted into EHF, International Fellows could apply for the Global Impact Visa, to live and work in New Zealand long-term. It’s an excellent model to attract experienced talent to Aotearoa NZ. The first few years the cohorts were kept small, while the leadership team of the Fellowship got settled in, then just as they started to expand, Covid-19 turned up. That wasn’t ideal.

Why? Because it can be hell. Not just for the people working with these CEOs and Founders, but those leaders themselves. And it’s more common than it should be. Recently it has become apparent that the world of leading any organisation is getting more complex than at any time in history. There are many reasons for this such as the speed of change, IT challenges, Climate change, and that’s enough for now. Complexity is not going away. Plus there is something else I’m pondering. The Western, Eurocentric business models are no longer fit for purpose, either at Ownership, Managerial, or Governance levels. I’m hearing from very capable CEOs that their stress levels are rising even when they are well resourced due to the extent and breadth of their responsibilities and what they need to keep abreast of. The enjoyment factor is dropping. This is only going to get worse. These CEOs are concerned.
